About Sophy
Sophy is passionate about Pilates and has been a Pilates teacher for over 22 years.
As an active and outdoors child, Sophy was always climbing trees, “It was home to me!” Her early arboreal love developed into her first career as high-flying trapeze artist, co-founding the acclaimed aerial-dance company ‘Momentary Fusion’.
Sophy trained as a Pilates instructor for mat and equipment with the Pilates Foundation UK. She built a successful Pilates career in London with private studio, health club and corporate clients before moving to Somerset. Today Sophy runs her SOpilates practice from her tranquil Pilates studio in the heart of Frome, Somerset.

“At 24 I was told that I was too old to be a trapeze artist - I went on to have a wonderful career in aerial arts. And on that journey I fell in love with exploring what the body could do, the need for rest, reflection and tuning in to your whole body’s needs, moment by moment. I love to help people experiment, overcome and explore through the body AND mind.
Body and mind - breath and energy.”
About Pilates
Pilates is a gentle and strong, low-impact exercise that is suitable for all fitness levels. It aims to strengthen muscles while improving posture, alignment and flexibility.
Developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, today Pilates is practised by millions of people worldwide. From older adults to elite athletes, Pilates is accessible to all.
You can do Pilates with or without equipment but expect the moves to involve slow, precise movements and breath control. The Pilates moves target your core, although the exercises work other areas of your body such as your arms, glutes, and lower legs. Expect to work your entire body.

About Sophy’s Pilates Practice
Sophy draws on her extensive experience to identify the individual needs of each client, whilst creating comprehensive and balanced classes for a wide range of clients.
Sophy is passionate about Pilates, especially how it builds awareness of unhelpful postural patterns. Her practice focuses closely on the breath, always ascertaining clients’ specific needs, ensuring the classes are safe, bespoke and therefore more individually beneficial.
Sophy creates a relaxed atmosphere in her sessions and classes with an imaginative and gentle approach to exercises. She helps students set their own pace for achieving improved mobility and core strength.
A sense of fun coupled with visualisation allows students to gain a deeper intelligent understanding of what is happening internally, and to be more intuitive and to listen to their bodies.

“Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit!”
