Studio Pilates

A calm, quiet space is essential for achieving the best results in a Pilates session. The SOpilates studio is just that and offers a range of equipment and apparatus including the reformer, tower and chair, to help you work through your personalised program.

Studio Pilates is for everyone, as everyone benefits from Pilates apparatus; it works the whole body whilst honing in on specific areas of focus and need. There is far more versatility of movement for the body on the apparatus. And I love those ‘lightbulb’ moments clients get from the studio sessions.

Do read the kind words of clients’ testimonials below for the some of the benefits Pilates has brought them.

1:1 Pilates Sessions

Individual attention and the apparatus helps target specific muscle groups, which is excellent for rehabilitation after injury, for specialised conditions especially for athletes, runners, cyclists and swimmers.

After an introductory session I will introduce you to the Pilates apparatus: the reformer, tower and chair. The specialised apparatus uses spring-loaded resistance, gravity and movement to assist and challenge the body.

Check the information below on what to expect and what to bring and wear at your first session.

Working with a friend can help you with compliance. As ‘Pilates buddies’ you may find it easier to keep turning up even on those ‘bad days’.

You will still receive my individual attention but once you are set-up for each exercise you can work on your own.

As I work with your team member I will of course still be watchful of your technique and effort!

Introductory Session

Most people will benefit from an introductory session if they are new to Pilates, or have had a long break or feel a bit rusty.

If you are brand new to Pilates it helps me get to know you and think about what classes would most benefit you. An Introductory session is held in my studio and is 1hr 15mins.

In your introductory session we will go through your responses in your enrolment questionnaire. I will then assess your posture and any issues or injuries. Finally we will confirm what you want to get out of Pilates, whether it be a baseline or recovery from injury, or training for a race.

What to bring & wear

Do bring your water bottle, staying hydrated is important. SOpilates has all the equipment you need in the studio.

Comfortable clothes to move in - no belts or studs and zips that could damage the mats. Ideally wear tracksuits or exercise clothing / cycle shorts and top, plus socks.

Kind Words…

  • – Reformer Pilates Client –

“I started regular Reformer Pilates with SOpilates after severing my anterior cruciate ligament in a skiing accident in 2016. Sophy is very diligent in making sure I am well balanced and my mobility and general fitness have improved under her care. She has a good insight into my abilities and physical aspirations and is a thoughtful and patient tutor.”

  • – Back Pain Client –

“You are a genius with magical skills.”

  • – Long Term 1:1 Client –

“I'm lucky enough to have known Sophy for the last 10 years, initially through group classes then 1:1 sessions. Her knowledge, expertise, support, encouragement and kindness have been invaluable to me in dealing with a progressive neurological condition. Sophy has been instrumental in helping me manage and maintain my health and mobility.”

  • Pilates Classes Client

Pilates is not a quick fix solution but it has helped me enormously over the years and I have a much stronger core as a result of the work that I have done. I would wholeheartedly recommend Sophie as a Pilates teacher.

  • Long-Term Classes Client

I have been attending Sophie’s Pilates classes for about 12 years. I started because of a bad back and didn't know what to expect. I thought it would be hard work and it is! But it is also a lot of fun, Sophie has a great sense of humour and we do have a lot of laughs in her classes.
